Mechanical Designer/Drafter

Job Description

ATA is seeking an experienced mechanical designer/drafter to assist a group of engineers with all aspects of CAD design and drawings, maintaining/updating parts lists, BOMs, assembly/test documents, etc. Projects would vary from technology development programs to complete drawing packages for custom space flight hardware, and may include mechanical drawings, basic wiring/cable drawings, optical drawings, etc. The candidate is expected to have a thorough understanding of SolidWorks, mechanical drawing standards, tolerance analysis, and GD&T. The candidate would be expected to work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team supporting several projects simultaneously. The candidate would also be expected to manage designs/drawings within SolidWorks PDM, and to manage the PDM users/groups.

The ability to perform hands-on work including basic machining, assembly/alignment of optical systems, 3D printing, etc. is highly desirable and will allow the candidate to be involved in projects from beginning to end rather than just in the design/drafting phase. Familiarity or the desire to learn the operation of environmental test equipment including thermal and thermal vacuum chambers, vibration tables, etc. is also highly desirable.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with demonstrated self-starter characteristics, and someone who is capable of working both individually and as part of a small team. The candidate must be able to adapt between technology development projects and the formalisms (configuration management processes and procedures) associated with building space-qualified or production hardware.
