APPLIED TECHNOLOGY
ASSOCIATES Announces New Aerospace
Integration & TestING Business Unit
ALBUQUERQUE, NM --
Applied
Technology Associates (ATA) has announced the creation of the
Aerospace Integration and Test Business Unit to meet
current and future customer requirements. Jeff Grusy, Director of ATA
Sensors and Systems Division, has appointed Taylor Locker as General Manager
to head the new unit, and Dennis Smith as Technical Director. The group
provides inertial testing and calibration services, environmental testing,
thermal cycling, thermo-vac, and life testing for aerospace components and
subsystems. The company is adding additional test facilities to offer
EMI/EMC testing during the next 3 months. New test facilities for space
qualification of larger subsystems, nano-sats and small satellites is being
considered for 2006-2007 depending on customer requirements.
The ATA Aerospace
Integration and Test Business Unit is intended to fill a critical need for
such services in the Southwestern United States, and provide further support
to New Mexico’s space and technology business base. The Aerospace
Integration and Testing activities will include full test and evaluation of
components and subsystems for satellites, tactical and directed energy
systems, missiles and surveillance. It is a reflection of further growth of
ATA into its role as a supplier of advanced subsystem technologies and
services to DoD, aerospace and commercial customers.
ATA has been
conducting full testing and space qualification of ATA manufactured
satellite sensors and subsystems for several years, and performs such
service for key customers. With the creation of the new unit, ATA will begin
actively marketing these services and add additional facility and test
capabilities, as well as personnel.
Tony Tenorio,
President of ATA, stated, “We are excited to have the opportunity to expand
into this business area and use our recognized leadership in integration and
testing of key technologies to advance the capabilities of our defense and
aerospace clients as well as our advanced commercial customers. This is
another step toward positioning ATA as a major supplier to the defense and
aerospace communities, and New Mexico as source for a full range of space
technologies and services”.
ATA supplies precision
sensing, measurement and platform stabilization technologies, R&D services,
advanced sensing components and subsystems to DoD, NASA, and major aerospace
contractors, and commercial customers. Founded in 1975, ATA was named SBA
National Prime Contractor of the Year for 2004, was named New Mexico
Innovator of the Year in April 2005, and has received numerous local and
national awards for outstanding performance during its 30-year history.
ATA also has major
contracts to develop state-of-the-art optical inertial reference units, fast
steering mirrors, and inertial sensors used in long-range optical systems
and laser communications. The company is a locally-owned, with headquarters
in the Sandia Science and Technology Park, and additional locations at
Kirtland AFB, and North Oscura Peak on White Sands Missile Range, NM.
